I'm not sure how to start this blog post, but here I am typing.
People know that I am engaged in politics, but once Elizabeth Warren announced her candidacy for president and subsequent plans issued, I felt proud to call myself a Warren Democrat and a supporter of her campaign.
Elizabeth Warren is not perfect, like every other candidate. However, in the areas that she faced criticism, Warren listened to those communities, sat with them, and worked with them to develop plans to uplift all of society. No matter Medicare for All, Social Security, Green & Blue New Deals, Voting Rights, etc. there was intersectionality built into her plans.
I felt that she wanted to listen to me, hear my concerns, and consider what everyone had to offer as she developed her platform. She grew up in Oklahoma, dropped out of college, returned as an adult, achieved a law degree while raising a family, became the nation's expert on bankruptcy and financial law, ran and became the first female senator in Massachusetts, and was put on senate leadership, ignoring typical seniority.
Hillary Clinton ran in 2016, and put 65 million cracks in the glass ceiling. Elizabeth Warren ran in 2020, taking down a sexist and racist billionaire in one night and introducing progressive policies that are now mainstream. Their campaigns are not over; Onward Together and Nevertheless She Persisted will continue to reverberate through our country for years.
Even more importantly in the future, hopefully very soon, we will have our nation's first female president, aided by the countless women before her like Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren, who together, will crack the glass ceiling.
In the meantime, I am in mourning. I will grab some red wine and sour patch kids tonight, watch a movie that I don't care about, and tomorrow I will wake up and use my voice to advocate for myself and others.
